Partnering the City of Johannesburg to keep the traffic lights on during loadshedding
Standard Bank Group has teamed up with the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) and the Rosebank Management District (RMD) to power 4 traffic intersections around its Rosebank campus in a bid to improve mobility in the node during loadshedding.
Standard Bank has adopted a further 7 intersections located in and around the Simmonds Street Campus in the Johannesburg Central Business District. The bank joins JRA in calling on other corporates in the CBD to take up this initiative. In addition to enhancing the mobility of motorists and pedestrians in these two busy nodes, the partnership will also improve public safety and employee productivity.
Nkosinathi Manzana, Standard Bank’s Head for Real Estate Services, said the bank’s partnership with JRA and the RMD demonstrated its commitment to being a corporate citizen that cares about the flourishing of the City of Johannesburg and its people.
Acting CEO for the Johannesburg Roads Agency, Mr. Zweli Nyathi, agreed with the sentiments shared by Mr. Manzana on the partnership between JRA and Standand Bank. He further elaborated on how “this partnership will go a long way in easing the movement of traffic in the Rosebank node as well as Johannesburg CBD, further saving road users the burden and stress that come with non-operational traffic lights during load shedding”. He also highlighted how he is pleased with the momentum that the formation of partnerships with other corporates is progressing and how he was looking forward to the forging of more lucrative partnerships to ease mobility in Johannesburg.
“In the coming weeks, we can look forward to other corporates completing the necessary contractual agreements and behind-the-scenes work to bring more intersections online, further easing traffic congestion within Rosebank and Johannesburg. We are confident that this will make the commute to and from places of work in these busy nodes safer, efficient and convenient,” said Manzana.
