Standard Bank donates R2.45 million in disaster relief aid for KZN and Eastern Cape

Standard Bank has announced a donation of R2.45 million to disaster affected areas in parts of Kwa-Zulu Natal and Eastern Cape.

The two provinces have experienced extreme weather conditions characterised by heavy rainfall, and strong winds that have left extensive damage to infrastructure, homes and roads.

The donation will be allocated to South Africa Search and Rescue to assist with the rescue efforts, along with the Red Cross, Gift of the Givers, and OneFarm Share to provide shelter, necessities, and food.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to all the people affected by the recent floods and storms,” says Dr Kirston Greenop, Head of Corporate Citizenship at Standard Bank.

“Our donation is designated to contribute to the efforts of dedicated non-governmental organisations, which are working tirelessly to make a tangible difference and alleviate the plight of families affected by these unfortunate events”.

“Where possible, our teams work with partners on the ground to assist where we can. These teams focus on search and rescue, and humanitarian relief. Our contribution is a small catalyst to help drive the hard work of assisting with relief efforts,” adds Dr Greenop.

Standard Bank encourages its customers, employees, and the public to join the relief efforts by making additional contributions.

Through the bank’s Rand4Rand initiative, they intend to match all donations made by employees.
