Do I need to come to SA to open a Non-Resident Account?
No, you can open a Non-Resident Account from anywhere in the world.
Can I open a Non-Resident Account if I reside in Lesotho, Namibia or Eswatini?
You can’t open a Non-Resident Account if you reside in any of those countries since they fall under the Common Monetary Area.
Can I open a Non-Resident Account if I live in South Africa?
No, you must be living in a foreign country that is outside of CMA to open a Non-Resident Account.
Does Standard Bank offer credit facilities to non-resident clients such as home loans, credit cards, etc.?
Yes, we do offer credit facilities to non-resident clients.
Is internet banking available for Non-Resident Accounts?
Yes, internet banking is available.
Can I transfer money from my Non-Resident Account to my foreign personal account?
No, you can’t transfer money to your foreign account because every transaction that happens in a Non-Resident Account is facilitated and approved by our exchange control team.
Can I have a debit order or a stop order on my Non-Resident Account?
Yes, you can, but only from a current account or transactional savings account.
Why is my account blocked on internet banking?
The account might not be compliant in terms of FICA requirements. Please email Nonresnewbusiness@standardbank.co.za for assistance.
Can I transfer funds to myself abroad without having to manually provide a payment form every month?
Yes you can, a standing instruction can be set up where we transfer a set amount to you as often as you would like, alternatively we can keep a minimum balance in your account and transfer the balance.

Can I make ATM cash deposits?
No you can’t, but you can deposit inside the branch if you provide evidence of where the funds are from.
